Clean up Downtown Toronto!

Great column by Joe Warmington in today's Toronto Sun... I for one totally agree, both as a resident of downtown who is sick of having to deal with panhandlers right on my own street and neighbourhood, and as a citizen who feels embarassed when tourists come to visit here, and see how many beggars and transients we have on our streets and in the parks.

Great Commercials

The Conservatives have finally performed a marketing move that will actually work. These commercials are totally unexpected, and gets the message straight to Canadian voters, unfiltered:

Michael Thompson for Mayor!

It's about time that someone spoke out for common sense and had the guts to say what they think, instead of trying to be politically correct all of the time. It's amazing that it takes a fellow member of a visible minority group (and another person with a Jamaican background to boot) to say what bleeding-heart liberals who tend to be caucasian are afraid to say, at the risk of offending someone.

We have gun crime in this city, and 90% of it occurs within certain neighbourhoods where the ethnic makeup is that of a certain group. Michael Thompson, black of Jamaican background who is a city councillor representing one of those communities, is advocating ethnic profiling. I know many other ordinary Jamaicans who aren't part of the "special interest groups", and moved to Canada to get away from the violence in Kingston, also say it's time that these measures are taken, to stop the import of gang violence from Jamaica.

Unlike bleeding heart politicians like David Miller, who like others of his ilk, try to blame "American guns" for the recent violence to the city (like they try to blame Americans for everything else instead of looking at our own root causes), and advocates more measures similar to the idiotic, massively expensive federal gun registry (yeah, like that's really helped), including the moronic proposal to punish legal owners of hunting rifles by saying that they should store them in a central depot (?!), Michael Thompson is pushing for a real solution to the problem.

If he runs for mayor in Toronto in 2006, I will support him. David Miller has got to go!

Hall of Fame Qualifications

If Palmiero, Bonds, or McGwire are allowed into the Baseball Hall of Fame, and they continue to not allow Pete Rose in, my respect for that great institution will forever be diminished.

Paul Tracy goes to NASCAR!

Not quite as a full-time driver, but Paul Tracy is going to be racing in the Michigan Nextel Cup Race on August 21st for Richard Childress Racing's No. 33 as a bit of a tryout. His contract for his CART team expires at the end of this year, and he's completely unsigned for 2006. This move to NASCAR for Tracy has been rumoured for a long time, let's hope that we finally get to see it.

May this be the first step to Southern Ontario getting our own NASCAR Nextel Cup race. Me and a couple of friends are already thinking of going to one of the races at Pocono next summer.
