It's about time that someone spoke out for common sense and had the guts to say what they think, instead of trying to be politically correct all of the time. It's amazing that it takes a fellow member of a visible minority group (and another person with a Jamaican background to boot) to say what bleeding-heart liberals who tend to be caucasian are afraid to say, at the risk of offending someone.
We have gun crime in this city, and 90% of it occurs within certain neighbourhoods where the ethnic makeup is that of a certain group. Michael Thompson, black of Jamaican background who is a city councillor representing one of those communities, is advocating ethnic profiling. I know many other ordinary Jamaicans who aren't part of the "special interest groups", and moved to Canada to get away from the violence in Kingston, also say it's time that these measures are taken, to stop the import of gang violence from Jamaica.
Unlike bleeding heart politicians like David Miller, who like others of his ilk, try to blame "American guns" for the recent violence to the city (like they try to blame Americans for everything else instead of looking at our own root causes), and advocates more measures similar to the idiotic, massively expensive federal gun registry (yeah, like that's really helped), including the moronic proposal to punish legal owners of
hunting rifles by saying that they should store them in a central depot (?!), Michael Thompson is pushing for a real solution to the problem.
If he runs for mayor in Toronto in 2006, I will support him. David Miller has got to go!
